The representative of the National Center for Coordination of Activities related to Vaccines against COVID-19 (CNCAV), Colonel Valeriu Gheorghiță, has informed that Cluj-Napoca has the highest vaccination rate in the country and that the county of Cluj has one of the highest vaccination rates across Romania.
However, the fourth wave is approaching, and that vaccination is the only way to ensure long-term sustainability and predictability.
“In Europe, wave four is already making its presence felt. There is already an increase in the number of cases. We have reached a cumulative incidence rate in two weeks of about 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a doubling of the number of cases is expected. This happens against the background of the increase of the share of the Delta variant, which is much more transmissible, more contagious. The viral load of positive people is 1000 times higher than in the conditions of other viral variants. Once a person comes in contact with this virus, it becomes contagious after a short time. After about four days. Basically, this means that the doubling rate of cases is very high” informed Colonel Valeriu Gheorghiță
Authorities are expecting the 4th wave of COVID-19 to affect Romania in autumn and that cases have already started increasing slowly across Romania, with 126 new cases reported in 24 hours on July 24th, up 22 from the previous day where 104 cases were reported. Between June 25th and July 20th, new cases were steadily under 80 per day.
“If we will have, and naturally there will be an increase in the number of cases, after the holiday period, when people return to work, school activities will begin, I think it is important to reduce the number of cases in hospitals.
As a doctor, it is difficult for me to understand that we have people who die, when we have solutions at hand. It is a disease that can be prevented by vaccination. Vaccines have side effects, people are afraid of them, but they can be managed medically. My message is to get information from official sources” he explained.
“Cluj County is one of the counties with the highest vaccination coverage rate. Also, the city of Cluj-Napoca has the highest rate in the country. We are talking about a vaccination coverage rate of over 50%. If we look at group immunity, obtained through disease and vaccination, it exceeds 60%.”, praised Colonel Valeriu Gheorghiță.
