Work is finally starting on the new park which will be created in Zorilor, following years of legal battles with a real estate developer who wanted to use the land for building apartment buildings.

The city successfully fought to expropriate the land and convert it to a park for the benefit of the public and now activity has already started to convert the unused land to a 12,000 sqm park, featuring a modern playground for children, a fitness area for seniors, complete with chess tables and fountains.

In addition, there will be a fitness area, walking areas and bike lanes as well as hundreds of trees and plants which are to be planted at the site.

More than 180 trees and over 240 shurbs are to be planted in the park, in addition to the ones that already exist on the site. The site will be maintained by an irrigation system in order to reduce maintenance costs and provide freshness throughout dry periods.

“Parcul Observator is a reaffirmation of the general direction of development of our municipality, one similar to that of European cities – Green, Digital and Rezilient.” said Cluj-Napoca Mayor, Emil Boc.

Deadline for Completion

The deadline for the completion of the park is 9 months, with the exception of winter months, in which it is not permitted by law to perform such work.

The total value of the project is over 1.5 million euros (7,378,372.64 lei with VAT), and the duration of the works is 9 months (completion date: July 2023). The executor of the works is Garden Center, together with Ro-Verde Landscaping.
