UPDATE – Iulius Mall provided explanation for the collapse: The incident was caused by the cracking of a cold thermal pipe, the drained water damaging a part of the false ceiling, which gave way. Subsequently, the ceiling was cut controlled over a larger area in order to intervene. No one was injured and there was no other damage.
Part of the ceiling collapsed in Iulius Mall, Cluj-Napoca, after what appears to have been a severe water leak caused by the cracking of a cold thermal heating pipe.
This is not the first time that the mall has had issues with water flooding the location and causing extensive damage.
This year, on August 10th, a similar situation was reported after heavy rainfall and also the same in 2008.
No official statement has been provided as of yet, however, that section of the mall has been closed off whilst investigation and urgent repairs are performed.
