Africa Day returns to Cluj-Napoca this Saturday, bringing music, dance, traditional food, exhibitions and family-friendly activities to the courtyard of the Transylvanian Ethnographic Museum.
The event will take place on 16 May, from 14:00, at the museum on Strada Memorandumului 21, and is organised by the African Partnership Group. Cluj XYZ will also be there to photograph and capture the atmosphere of the day and we're encouraging everyone to swing by and enjoy the experiences!
Africa Day is internationally marked on 25 May, the date connected to the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963, which later became the African Union. In Cluj, the event has developed into a local celebration of culture, community and intercultural exchange.
This year’s programme includes cultural performances, traditional cuisine, a photography and ceramics exhibition, creative workshops for children and educational activities. Visitors can also expect African music, dance and a live DJ set in the museum courtyard.
Organised in Cluj since 2014, Africa Day has become a familiar part of the city’s cultural calendar and a visible celebration of Cluj’s African community. The event aims to create a welcoming space for dialogue, mutual understanding and connection between the African community and the wider public in Cluj-Napoca.
The event is presented as a celebration of unity, diversity and inclusion, while also offering visitors a chance to experience music, food, movement and cultural traditions from across the African continent.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of background. Whether you are part of Cluj’s African community, an international resident, a student, a local family or simply curious to learn more, Africa Day is open to all.
For those interested in Cluj’s international communities, the event offers a relaxed and accessible way to meet people, enjoy performances and learn more about the cultural diversity already present in the city.
