Simona Halep Summer Set

Sunday January 9th, 2022, Romanian professional tennis player, Simona Halep won the Melbourne Summer Set 1 tournament. She defeated Veronika Kudermetova (Russian), 6-2 6-3.

Earlier in the week, Halep, who's currently 30 years old, had said that she aimed to finish 2022 in the world's top 10 if possible after she struggled with injuries during 2021 and dropped to 20th in the rankings.

She reached out to her fans via social media and said, she said “I want to thank you for your support, it was an amazing atmosphere down there today on the beautiful court”

She won the finals match after 1h:14m, earning her 280 WTA points and making it her first Australian title and the 23rd title in her career. She had previously played Kudermetova twice and won on both occasions during 2021, winning 6-1 6-1 in the third round at the Australian Open and 6-1 7-6 (4) in the eighth round, held in Moscow.
