Cluj-Napoca is now home to ‘play:space Cluj’, Romania’s first and only urban eco community centre. The pioneering initiative encourages everyone to take a proactive stance on sustainability and climate change, whether it’s in their personal lives, organisations, or businesses.
The founder, Jonathan Melhuish, a British expat, was inspired by similar projects he'd been a part of in England. He recognised a crucial need for such a platform for eco action in Romania and took the lead to turn his vision into a reality. His dream was for more than just a community centre; he wanted to create an eco-lifestyle experience; a blend of green business and eco-conscious living.
play:space is a platform for supporting others to take action, but is also an ‘eco’ business in itself, living its philosophy by offering sustainable services: co-living rooms, space for events and workshops, and the latest addition, a coworking space.
This newest venture aims to provide a warm, friendly work environment to everyone – irrespective of whether their work is directly eco-oriented or not. This co-working space is not just a place to get your work done, it’s also a hub to network and connect with like-minded individuals.
Their homely event space is available to rent by the hour, and is ideal for workshops, dance, social gatherings and other similar events.
