Following the postponement of 2020's event, due to COVID restrictions, the Untold Festival organisers have announced that the festival will take place in Cluj-Napoca between 9th – 12th September 2021, unlike previous years, which normally saw the festival held in August.

As quoted by Digi24, the organisers said, “Untold 2021 will be a long-awaited reunion, after close to two years, a world celebration of going back to normal. For the more than 1,000 suppliers and 15,000 collaborators of the festival, an assurance that the sixth edition of Untold takes place means a relaunch of activity after more than 16 months of pause”.

Edi Chereji, a representative of UNTOLD, informed Digi24 of some of the rules for accessing the festival, “We know the rule that absolutely everyone should be vaccinated. In the next period, depending on the evolution of the campaign, the right of those who are either going through the disease or being tested will be added. Then there is this court decision. Then the green certificate from July We estimate that 90% of our audience will already be vaccinated in the fall.

The limit is the one imposed by the location, we can have 100,000 people every day, without the pressure of an exaggeratedly large audience. After a two-year hiatus, we expect a record number this year. “

First tickets are expected to be put on sale Thursday, June 10th 2021. From this date, existing ticket holders will be able to “Check-in” with tickets purchased for the 2019 edition.

Organisers have also announced a one-day sale, taking place on the same day, where people are encouraged to register at https://untold.com/register, while there's still availability.

Reactions are generally positive

As evident on the official UNTOLD festival Facebook page, the announcement has been very well received, especially by fans, and also by Cluj-Napoca mayor, Emil Boc.

“Organising Untold in its traditional, classic form, as we are used to, represents the victory of the new normality over the pandemic. It's about the courage of Untold, and it's worth congratulating, but it's also worth congratulating all those who wanted this festival to happen and all those who have been vaccinated and will be vaccinated against COVID-19 to be able to participate in this festival.

By far, the easiest way to participate in this festival is vaccination. My recommendation is to be able to enjoy this wonderful festival, this huge positive energy of young people around the world, not only in Romania, and to signal the victory of the new normality over this COVID-19 pandemic, the signal that our lives return to the normality we all want,” said the mayor.

However, there have also been concerns expressed across social media, that the announcement is “too soon”, especially as other countries are either dealing with, or appear to be heading towards a 3rd wave.

Organisers of SAGA Festival, which is planned to take place in Bucharest during the same period, left a comment on the UNTOLD Festival Facebook post, hinting at the fact that the conflicting dates are inconvenient.

SAGA vs UNTOLD Festival 2021

SAGA festival lists some acts which have previously been seen at UNTOLD festival, fuelling speculation as to what the line-up for 2021's edition will be, which UNTOLD organisers have not yet announced.
